Marie Blabolilová

*1948

Marie Blabolilová is a prominent Czech graphic artist, painter, and restorer. She studied at the Václav Hollar Art School in Prague and later at the Academy of Fine Arts, where she focused on painting. During her studies, she experienced the onset of the normalization period, which also influenced her artistic development. From 1973 to 1976, she worked as a teacher at the Folk School of Art in Litoměřice.

Marie Blabolilová concentrated primarily on graphic art, in which she found her distinctive expression. Her prints are characterized by the precise mastery of classical techniques, such as etching. She uses a regular grid of lines and strokes to create existentially tuned expressive forms, often depicting natural motifs and landscapes.

In addition to graphics, Marie Blabolilová also devotes herself to painting. Her paintings, especially later ones, are known for their abstract and color-intense style. She uses various materials, such as linoleum, as the base for her paintings and combines them with painting techniques like collage and hatching.

Her works often reflect existential themes and, through symbols and abstract forms, express deeper emotional and philosophical ideas. She has received several awards for her work, which is considered a significant contribution to contemporary Czech art.
