Will there be still lifes on future planets?
The Berlinskej Model Gallery opens its next exhibition in 2025, continuing a year-long series of exhibitions connecting artists of different generations. The third artist from the oldest generation of living women artists will be Marie Blabolilová (1948).
The floral still life is an extremely traditional artistic genre. Its enduring—though often exhaustingly overused—presence nevertheless allows us to continuously observe shifts in perspectives and relationships toward “nature within the conditions of the human world,” that is, nature that is domesticated, cared for, and coexisting. Painter Tomáš Bárta, photographer Petr Strouhal, and their guest, painter Marie Blabolilová, exchange flowers of diverse shapes and colors—companions of our everyday lives, their technological mutants, and hybrids of the near future. It is as if we find ourselves on the threshold where even a potted plant can no longer be taken for granted.
