Too Fluid to Handle
At first, the decorativeness of Bety Krnanska’s art seems very bourgeois, safe in form and pleasant in content. It is only when one uncovers more layers (as is usually the case when deconstructing the bourgeoise) that the complexity of the problems raised by the artist becomes apparent. The rattan she uses is both a flexible material and one that stabilizes. As such, It becomes a symbol of duality and bipolarity of the contemporary world. The production of rattan weaved objects requires patience and skill. Nevertheless, In the contemporary world, the value of such physical labor is disproportionately low compared to the symbolic value of the work that will appear in the media space. This dissonance and differences between the media world and the real world become a source of critical and inspiration for the artist.
