Soft Gator Boy feat. Cassidy Clingman

Sebastian Burger attended the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, graduating in 2012 from the Master Class of the renowned German artist Neo Rauch, one of the foremost representatives of the New Leipzig School, which lead the revival of figurative painting in the 1990s. Burger’s own practice walks a fine line between representative and abstract painting. The starting point for his work consists of stylised imagery, often composed in a manner akin to collage, alternating precisely executed illusionism with two-dimensional representation. His work bears the influence of the legacy of surrealism and magic realism, as well as the metaphysical painting of Giorgio de Chirico, who has become a centre of interest for a strong current of the emerging generation of young artists.
Sebastian Burger ( in 1980 in Magdeburg) has shown his work at a number of collective and individual exhibitions, including solo exhibitions held at the Galerie Tobiase Naehringa in Leipzig (Sugar on my Tongue, 2018; Birth of Serpents, 2016, Im Schatten der Erde fliegen die Dämonen, 2011), the Grand Tour Studio in Milano (A Song from under the Floorboards, 2018), G2 Kunsthalle in Leipzig (Through a Glass, Clearly, with Stefan Guggisberg, 2018), Kunstverein Tiergarten in Berlin (Der romantische Egoist’, with Sebastian Nebe 2011). His work has also been presented as part of group exhibitions at the Galerie Tobias Naehring in Leipzig (Innenleben, 2018; Works on Paper, 2018; Als Lösung erschien uns der Weltraum, 2010), Platform in Stockholm (Mount Analogue, 2017), Swimming Pool Projects in Frankfurt am Main (States of Flux: The Token, 2016), Tomorrow Gallery in NY (Drive, 2016), and others.
Sebastian Burger lives and works in Leipzig.
